HAWKES' GOES AWOL

With the club enjoying it's best season ever, holding first place at the top of Division One, and a place in the Herts. Junior Cup final confirmed after a great 6-0 semi final victory over Ware Lions St Mary's, players were fighting for a place in the fourteen man squad to be chosen for the final.

But not one player.

Dave Hawkes informed the club's management team that he would be unavailable for the cup final because of a prior engagement.

After astonished looks from the whole management team, he was asked what it was that would keep him away from a day that was most probably going to be the club's greatest moment.

Further looks were exchanged by the whole management team when Dave explained why he would miss the final.

He had to take his then partner away for a romantic weekend to Bournemouth. It was he said, a weekend that could possibly save this trouble relationship and that if he told his partner he wouldn't be going, he was worried that he may lose a certain body part.

So Dave enjoyed his romantic weekend in Bournemouth, whilst the club enjoyed it's celebrated victory over Bennington in the 1996 Herts. Junior Cup Final.

Priorities eh!!
