CUP EXIT

In it's second season 1994/95, the club progressed through to the quarter final stage of the Herts. Junior Cup. In the team this particular season was another fiery Sicilian.

Dino Montalbano possessed great commitment and skill on the field of play, but had been known to lose it a few times when things weren't going his way.

This game was just one of those times. With the club 2-1 up, and with fifteen minutes left on the clock, Dino went in for a challenge against an opposing player. What initially looked like an innocuous challenge soon turned into a pushing contest between the two players, basically two wussies with handbags.

After the melee was sorted out the referee approached Dino and proceeded to show him a yellow card. This would have been fine with him, but in his infinite wisdom the referee declined to show the other player, who was just as guilty as Dino, a yellow card as well.

This infuriated Dino who started to remonstrate with the referee, but the man in black would have nothing of it, and waved Dino away.

Dino lost it big time, and in a scene reminiscent of Paulo DiCanio's push on referee Lodge, shoved the referee lightly on the shoulder muttering "Vafanculo", some obscenity in Sicilian.

After the referee had gained control of his wobbly legs, he proceeded to march off the field of play muttering, "F&*%K this, I don't get paid enough to put up with this shit".

The club was thrown out of the competition that year, fined £200 and was subsequently suspended.

To make matters worse, the club, not realising that a Herts. Junior Cup suspension also meant a McMullen's league suspension, played another two matches, winning both, before another letter popped through the letter box stating that the club had been fined a further £200 for playing whilst under suspension, and would have both games that it had just won taken away.

So the whole saga had cost the club a place in the semi finals of the Herts. Junior Cup, two league games and £400 in fines.
