1999 / 00   -   Joe joined the club as soon as he was eligible on his sixteenth birthday and soon made a name for himself as a hard worker, making up for his relatively small stature. In his early years he enjoyed relative success at left midfield but moved to centre forward and did not look back. 2000 / 01   -   Joe matures as a player every year and enjoyed picking up his first honour for the club, being named reserve team manager's player. 2001 / 02   -   Joe continued this good form even with the in form of Andy Djemal and Steve Francis. With Andy having commitments elsewhere at the start of this season, Joe still made nineteen appearances with only six at sub. He finished third in the Golden Boot with fourteen goals and third again in the Man of the Match with fifteen points. 2002 / 03   -   Joe struggled at the start of the season due to a knee injury, but once he got going he made six starts for the reserves, two as sub, scoring one goal before he was moved up to the 1st team. Joe went on to make nine appearances for the 1st team, two as sub, winning Man of the Match honours in two games and scoring two goals in these eight games.
