2000 / 01   -   Max joined the club in November along with Adrian Devine and Billy Luscombe. He settled into the reserve team's midfield straight away and soon stamped his playing style and authority on the game. Max is a tough no nonsense tackler, he is committed and does not give any quarter during any ninety minutes. He helped the reserve team through to their cup semi final in 2001, then moved into the 1st team around February and was a large part in their run to the Division 1 cup final. He started at Midfield in this final for the first team who ran out eventual winners against fancied Knebworth 3 - 1. 2001 / 02   -   Max once again took his customary role in midfield and helped the team earn promotion to the Premier along with a league and cup double. He made sixteen starts in the season, scored five times and finished second in the Man of the Match awards with twenty five points, four behind the eventual winner. 2002 / 03   -   Max tried out at Potters Bar in pre-season, missed a few games whilst there, but returned about Christmas time and made eight appearances for the first team, one as sub. He won two Man of the Match awards along with one second place finish.
