Paul was the club's first goalkeeper and enjoyed the same success
that the club did through it's first three seasons, including three league and cup doubles. He was
a dominating figure in goal and took no prisoners with either the opposition or his own players if
they weren't up to scratch, he was loud and proud in goal and always gave one hundred and ten
percent.
He was a massive beer drinker and would be seen at most games with a can of lager in his
hand, some even said that a can of beer was always hiding behind one of his goalposts.
He
collected beer cloths and lovingly adorned these to his tracksuit bottoms, stitching four Carlsberg
beer cloths to each leg.
He will best be remembered for giving Bury Rangers an early lead in the
club's first cup final, letting the ball bounce over his head and shouting "did you see that
bounce??".
